Job Summary

Performs specialized engineering duties related to fixed equipment, including pressure vessels, process piping, storage, exchangers and valves at multiple natural gas gathering and processing system facilities, pipeline and fractionation plant operation and maintenance, eliminating defects from fixed equipment and/or estimating, designing and coordinating repair and maintenance projects.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  •  Perform engineering activities relative to operation and maintenance.
  • Determine equipment efficiencies; hydraulic calculations; valve and pipeline sizing; and perform gas flow analysis.
  • Troubleshooting of emergent equipment problems.
  • Technical support of fixed equipment such as pressure vessels, exchangers, piping and valves.
  • Work with production and maintenance to identify key areas for reliability improvements of fixed equipment through the application of effective reliability strategies, root cause analysis and team-based problem solving.  Develop action plans to eliminate repeat failures and implement corrective actions. 
  • Support training of operations and maintenance personnel on new and existing equipment and integrity management systems.
  • Direct and oversee major overhauls and repairs to critical fixed equipment either in-house or at outside shops.
  • Actively participate in the plant Process Safety Management process, including timely completion of associated tasks.
  • Develop equipment engineering scope for maintenance outages and turnaround maintenance events.
  • Coordinate projects among regions, departments (Accounting, Operation, Construction, Plants, Scheduling, Customers and Gas Supply), and contractors including but not limited to:
    • Bid proposals and contracts
    • Equipment procurement
    • Construction and/or relocation projects
    • Budget and forecasting
    • Design, drafting and mapping
    • ROW acquisition
  • Assist in efforts to coordinate efficient and cost-effective implementation of inspections and integrity management programs.  
  • Participate as a member of mechanical turn-around/shutdown teams and provide input into needed equipment inspection and repair procedures.
  • Provide technical and/or engineering assistance to management, employees, governmental/regulatory personnel, contractors, customers, and others on matters including but not limited to:
    • Fixed equipment, process piping and related system component design
    • Repair strategies
    • Fitness for Service determinations
    • Impacts of operational changes or process upsets on fixed equipment
    • Policies and procedures
  • Research, analyze, prepare, and/or approve information including but not limited to:
    • Failure Analysis
    • Root Cause Analysis or similar
    • Engineering studies
    • Corrosion models
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.
  • Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in engineer with previous experience as staff engineer. 

  •    Experience with and thorough knowledge of processing plant equipment and facilities design, construction, operation, and maintenance.
  •    Excellent understanding of fixed equipment (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, valves, heaters, etc.) and good understanding of rotating equipment (centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, pumps, gas turbines, gearboxes, fans, etc.).
  •    Experience and training related to equipment failure investigations and Root Cause Analysis
  • Experience analyzing piping plans to ensure compliance with established standards and governmental regulations.
  • Application of math, algebraic formulas, calculus, and statistics.
  • Experience in use and function of office equipment including computers and applicable software.
  • Experience using PCMS, PV Elite, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience and training related to:
    • Transmission/gathering pipeline operations
    • Company/governmental operating and safety procedures
    • Line extension and relocation policies and procedures
    • Material failure investigations
    • Pipeline stress/strain analyses
  • Experience identifying, researching, evaluating, and prioritizing operational problems or specific situations and coordinating appropriate action/response.
  • Experience researching and preparing pipeline construction contracts, budgets, material requisitions, engineering studies, and correspondence.
  • Experience reading and interpreting governmental regulations, blueprints, contracts, manuals, specifications, surveys, charts, load studies, and various reports and correspondence.
  • Experience interacting, negotiating, advising, and communicating effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, direct, and/or delegate work assignments.  Knowledge of personnel policies and procedures (specified by position).
  •     Demonstrated ability to read and understand governmental regulations, references, journals, construction plans, blueprints, contracts, manuals, reports, specifications, and correspondence and use that knowledge to develop and complete projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to examine, test, and evaluate new products, materials, and processes.
  • Experience developing information and making presentations to groups and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.
  • Communicate and exchange verbal information and instructions; conduct oral presentations.

Certification and Licensing

  • Applicable driver’s license for travel to other company offices, facilities and to job sites.

Physical Requirements

  • Mobility to travel in and around plant and office facilities and around job sites out-of-doors.

  • Ability to operate tools and equipment as required.

Visual Requirements

  • Sufficient to perform job duties.
